As a trained human rights lawyer from Lund University, Sweden, Åsa Björklund spent several years working for the European Commission (EC) in Guatemala.  She participated on several development projects and reported on sensitive social and human rights issues in Central America.  At the EC Åsa developed her reporting and writing skills while she produced countless reports directed to high ranking EU civil servants in order to inform about the issues at hand.

Åsa wanted the opportunity to fully express herself on all and everything she found truly interesting and exciting, not just her organization’s projects.  After leaving the EC she dedicated her time writing for the SARAGUATE project about her family’s road trip and adventures around North America.  Her efforts culminated with several published articles about her family’s travels.

Today Åsa is a freelance writer based out of Antigua in Guatemala, Central America.  Her work includes numerous articles for a variety of Swedish and English language editorials and magazines.  Her features cover a wide range of topics from current affairs, social and human rights issues to adventure, travel, lifestyle, animals and nature.  Her witty, thought provoking style invariably makes for creative and captivating articles.
